The district of Pla d'Urgell was created in 1988 for Generalitat of Catalonia, and it is constituted by 16 municipalities: Torregrossa, Bell-lloc of Urgell, Sidamon, Fondarella, Palau of Anglesola, Poal, Bellvís, Linyola, Miralcamp, Mollerussa, Vilanova of Bellpuig, Golmés, Vila-healthy, Castellnou of Seana, Ivars of Urgell and Barbens. Historically, he/she responds to the territories of the "fahs Maškigan", later well-known as the plain of Mascançà, conquered by the count from Barcelona in the third room of the XI century, that is to say, between the conquest of Tàrrega (1058) and the donation of the term castral of Anglesola for the count of Barcelona to Berenguer Gombau (1079). That the current district takes the name of Pla d'Urgell, populations that had been of the county including of Urgell and others that were not it, as Mollerussa, it is a fact that one has that to relate with a phenomenon that is documented from the XIV century and that you it denominates displacement of the toponimia, fruit of the existence of oneself physical and human landscape.

The district has a global surface of 304'49 square kilometers, and it is located in the sector western of Catalonia, inside the call Central Depression Catalan (depression of Ebro). The climate is mediterranean with continental tendency of low earth. The winters are cold and long, the hot summers and of short duration. Before one dominated vegetation of low undergrowths and dry grasses where those were taken lambs and goats when there were not cultivations: forests of cork oaks, some pine, bushes like the pomegranate trees, the blackberries; in those margins still find asparaguses, rúcula, thyme, camomile, and a great variety of flowers. With the arrival of the water of the channel of Urgell, another vegetation also arrived: chopos, elm trees, shade bananas, poplars, among other. Regarding the animals, there are goldfinches, swallows, crows, rooks, partridges, doves, turtledoves, sparrows, owls, lizards, foxes, hares or boars.
